I have thick, full medium-length blonde hair. I often get compliments on my lush, straight hair, which I’ve taken from chocolate brunette upwards towards the likes of ash gray blonde over the years. With relatively little effort – we’re talking good shampoo, conditioner and a little bit of flat ironing and hair gel – I could transform my hair from bed head to date-ready in like 15 minutes.
Then … I moved to Atlanta where the heat sizzles and on some days the humidity never lifts.
In Atlanta, came the humid mornings and the moist nights. Then, overnight (like literally overnight) my hair turned from lush to frizzy. I suddenly learned what it means to have a fly-away. I found out that thick hair can be unruly hair, and unless I’m ok with my hair looking like I botched a home-perm job, I have to invest in some solid products to tame hair frizz.
The 5 products I’ll talk about here come as the fruit of three years spent diligently searching for and trying many different hair products to find one that will tame frizzy hair, moisturize dried-out hair and keep hair smooth all day long. Here’s the top hair frizz control products I totally rely on to tame difficult hair frizz.
Easy Everyday: John Freida Frizz Ease
I keep John Frieda Frizz Ease Extra Strength Serum on hand for everyday use. Here’s why – I feel like dealing with hair frizz ranges from trying to flat iron hair frizz out all the way to the other end of the spectrum where expensive, well-crafted salon products will help straighten everything, but they cost alot of money.
I love this Frizz Ease Serum because it’s somewhat right in the middle. You can purchase it at most drugstores for under $10 and it really does work. When I use it and properly apply it to my wet hair, my fly-aways do smooth out and the areas where I see the most frizziness tend to calm down. This is a life-saver for a pretty low cost and I always keep it stocked.

Hair Styling: Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield
Taming frizz begins with using good product in wet hair, but also has to do with keeping styled hair in place too. That’s what this Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield is very good at.
I also like to use Living Proof’s No Frizz Humidity Shield formula. If I’m being honest, I’m not totally sure if it is a salon-quality product, but it feels like one when I use it. I’ve never actually seen it in a salon, but when I use this hair spray, it feels salon quality. I never need to use a large amount, and it works to keep strands in place and hair styles from fading. This works especially well for the occasions when I particularly need my hair style to stay in place. Think: Curls, up-dos or a sleek pony tail in need of extra support.

General Care: Oaui Leave-In Conditioner
This is another all-around product that smells amazing and will reduce alot of hair “issues.” Are you looking to de-tangle, smooth, condition and make your hair look shinier all in one go? I’ve found this conditioner will help on all fronts. Oaui’s leave-in conditioner is a great go-to conditioner. Designed for being easy, quick use, it still delivers noticeable results. I’ve used this conditioner for a while, and it’s not strong enough to tame fly-aways alone, however I feel like this product locks the moisture in my hair, which primes it for styling with other frizz control products. There are not many days I go without this stuff.

Extra Tough Days: Bumble and Bumble Hair Dresser’s Invisible Oil
The best part about Bumble and Bumble products, by far is the smell. I feel they always smell great and like you’ve come straight out of a salon. This Hair Dresser’s Invisible Oil is no exception. This oil is a great, salon-quality oil to tame frizz and get your hair shimmery smooth and looking silky.
I don’t use this oil often as it is more expensive, and using it in excess won’t make your fly-aways better, it will just make your hair more oily. But on the days where I want my hair to look exceptionally good, or the frizzy strands just won’t calm down no matter what, I pull this out. And, great smelling hair is the best!

Colored Hair Care: MoroccanOil Treatment
Again, because I’ve made my way through the spectrum of hair colors, sometimes frizz isn’t a result of humidity or the weather. Frankly, it’s because I’ve colored my hair into a dry, straw-like mess. I didn’t really take this all too seriously until I started highlighting my hair with blonde. A girl has got to have a good product around to keep hair looking nourished and moist (not brittle).
MoroccanOil is the perfect treatment for those moments. With daily applications to the tips and most frizzy areas, it only takes minutes to see a noticeable smoothing and calming of hair strands. Stay careful not to over-use this product, as this will give your hair an oily sheen that isn’t the best. However, use this product in moderation to repair dry and damaged hair and the results really are wonderful for frizzy hair.
