Leggings are so super comfy, I could really live in them everyday of the rest of my life. Except for two small, simple reasons. One, most leggings come in black. And two, leggings are so casual that depending on your lifestyle, they aren’t the right outfit item for every situation. But we can’t let leggings get a bad reputation for this, because with the right accessories and outfit pieces, leggings can go from lounge wear to the nicer end of casual.
Here are 5 of my favorite outfits to dress up leggings from casual to trendy.
Go for the Athletic Look
The trendy, athletic look is it’s own style right now. If you do it well, you won’t look like you’re headed to the gym, you’ll look all dressed up and ready for the day. I’d say the key here, besides a great bold color for the leggings, is to get a designer athletic shoe. Snazzy shoes will go the distance to give your outfit the kick it needs.
Go for the Denim Jacket
I have talked so much in the past about the denim jacket, because they have a nice way of making a casual outfit look it’s best. Denim does the trick when wearing leggings too. Just add a denim jacket to a black or bold colored legging, then pair with a great patterned or textured cami or blouse and you’re set to go.
Go for the Boyfriend Blouse
A boyfriend blouse can be a little unisex or super feminine just depending on how you accentuate it. With a pair of patterned, vibrant or dark colored leggings, this outfit suddenly becomes a creative option to wear on a lounge day or as a work-from-home outfit. This outfit brings out all the comfort in the world while still looking put together enough to go out in public.
Go for the Oversized Sweater
Over-sized works really well for leggings, whether it be a t-shirt, collared shirt or my personal favorite – the oversized sweater. This is a go-to look for the winter months where you do alot of staying inside and staying warm. A great oversized sweater will be bulky and go anywhere from your hip bones down towards your knees. I always choose a vibrant color of leggings or a print to accent the simplicity of the bulky sweater to keep the look exciting.
Go for the Semi-Casual Look
One way to dress up casual leggings is to pair them with ankle booties. I wrote more about this look here. Booties bring a nice texture and more formal element to leggings allowing you to pair them well with a dress, and over-sized sweater or other clothing. The key here is picking a color that pairs well with your leggings and isn’t overly fancy.
Go for a Stylish Jacket
Patterns, textures and bold colors are what you want to look for in a jacket to pair with leggings. Adding a jacket like this over your leggings will transform them from simple, casual to an outfit you can even wear in some semi-formal settings. Especially if this outfit is worn with fashionable flats or matching heels, you’ll be able to wear leggings out and about looking great.
